I have always been in love with music. At 18 I started playing guitar and I later studied music at university as a mature age student.
Latrobe University was a very progressive campus with a focus on 20th century composition and audio technology.
My first introduction to audio technology was rather crude.
One of our first assignments was composing a piece using tape loops, literally cutting up bits of recorded audio and join them together into a loop.
We used old 2-track reel-to-reel tape recorders creating delays and other effects by varying the speed of loops.
Later we progressed to using Akai samplers and midi sequencing.
For a major research project examining accessible design I developed a
narrated
web site for people with visual impairment. The site featured pre-recorded
audio narration streamed using FlashMX.
Sonify.org
published an article I wrote detailing some of the issues involved with using
FlashMX as a vehicle for delivering streaming audio for users with vision impairment.
See "Accessible Flash Streaming Audio",

As mentioned above it is possible to use FlashMX to stream audio, or more precisely
progressively download mp3 files.
Sonify.org is a great site for audio developers.
